Peng Zi chooses jade, a naturally precious stone which symbolizes richness, as his "material muse." Between 2009 and 2011, he studied both the optical properties of jade and its cultural significance. Zi explores the collision and integration of Eastern and Western cultures; the sculpted figures from jadeite and various gemstones commemorate his wonderful childhood. In recent years, his series incorporates elements of pop culture, including cartoons, tattoos, and mixed media, expanding his artistic concepts beyond singular visual presentations.
