Etsu Egami was born in Japan in 1994 and currently works between Tokyo and New York. She is considered one of the most prominent third-generation contemporary artists to emerge in Japan after World War II. In 2021, she became the youngest artist to be named in Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list for shaping the future. That same year, she was selected by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs as an emerging artist to represent the country in New York. Alongside Yuzuru Hanyu and Jackson Wang, she was named one of the “2024 Asia-Pacific U30 Outstanding Youth Leaders,” and her work has been collected by Dior. In 2025, she received the Best Artist Award at the Art Karlsruhe in Germany.
